Merchant Accounts

TOP

Choose and Establish a Merchant Account to process major credit cards. Depending on the type of credit card processing you select, real-time or web terminal, you will need to establish a Merchant Account to accept credit cards. In most cases, whichever processing you choose, the processing company will be able to create and approve an application for your company to accept credit cards.  For detailed information about Merchant Accounts, click the below link below to review results for Merchant Account providers.

Google Merchant Account

If your company already accepts credit cards, in most cases you can integrate the below listed solutions so that your transactions will cover your current merchant credit card accounts.

2simplifi Web Solutions, Inc. products and customized eCommerce solutions will support real-time credit card processing or manual processing for use with a virtual web terminal account.

Real-Time Processing

TOP

What is Real-Time Processing? Real-Time Processing is similar to a customer standing in a brick and mortar store and they hand the cashier their credit card after their total has been determined. The cashier swipes the card and will receive approval or non approval within seconds. The customer, depending on the authorization type, will either walk away with their merchandise or the cashier may ask for another credit card because the original card was not approved.

Real-Time Processing on the internet is the same. A customer will complete a detailed web form that collects the billing information about the customer. (Card Holder's Name, Address, City, State, Zip Code, Credit Card Number, Expiration Date, CVV2 Number, etc.) After the information has been provided, the customer submits their information. The billing information is posted to a processor, just like the swipe above, and the credit card will be approved or not approved. In the event that the credit card is not approved, the customer will be redirected to another web form, so that they can review and update their billing information and resubmit if necessary.

The key to real-time credit card processing with 2simplifi eCommerce solutions is integrating a gateway solution that gives you immediate connectivity to all major payment processors. This can be achieved through third party solutions by implementing snippets of programming code into the application's existing code. The code that is implemented is usually referred to as a Custom Tag. This Custom Tag works behind the scenes, keeping the customer, on the current web site and not redirecting to a completely different web site all together.

2simplifi Web Solutions, Inc. eCommerce products and projects have been implemented successfully with the following processor products available from third party companies.

Advantages of Real-Time Processing: Allows your eCommerce site to practically run itself. You will not have to worry about processing credit cards because the processor or gateway does it automatically. In most cases you will only have to worry about fulfillment of the products you sell.

Disadvantages of Real-Time Processing: Setup FEES and Monthly Subscription rates could cost more than Web Terminal Transactions.

Web Terminal Processing

TOP

What is Web Terminal Processing? A customer will complete a detailed web form that collects the billing information about the customer. (Card Holder's Name, Address, City, State, Zip Code, Credit Card Number, Expiration Date, CVV2 Number, etc.) After the information has been provided, the customer submits their information. The customer at that point will be directed to a web page informing them that their order and transaction have been received and that pending approval their order will be handles & shipped.

In the meantime, during the time that the customer is being directed to the confirmation page of the order, a scheduled e-mail has been sent the owner of the website, informing them that they have a pending sale. With 2simplifi Web Solutions, Inc. eCommerce products and projects, the billing and shipping information resides safely and securely in the application's database. The administrator will login to the back office feature and will then proceed to manually process the order via their Web Terminal Access Page. Depending on the approval or non approval, the administrator will be able to select the appropriate response and the customer will be notified of the status of their order.

Advantages of Web Terminal Processing: Setup FEES and Monthly Subscription rates could cost less than Real-Time Processing Transactions.

Disadvantages of Web Terminal Processing: You will need to be close to your computer in order to process all orders manually. If you receive a lot of orders, this can be very time consuming.

Secured Socket Layer (SSL) Data Encryption Certificate

TOP

No matter what, you will need to provide your customers peace of mind when they provide vital information through your web site. With a SSL Web Server Certificate on your website, any information sent to your web server is encrypted or scrambled, making it impossible to intercept or steal. It also displays the identity of the website owner, and the name of the independent authority who verified that identity, such as Thawte or Verisign. Various SSL Web Server Certificate connect at 256,128 bit, 56 bit or 40 bit depending on the client's browser capability.

For detailed information about SSL Certificates, click the below link below to review results for SSL Certificate providers. This is a necessity in establishing and creating your ecommerce web site.

Google SSL Certificate

Advantages of SSL Certificates: Displays your very own certificate detailing your specific company information and not a third party Shared SSL Certificate, offering potentially MORE credibility in reference to your company.

Disadvantages of SSL Certificates: Involves SETUP and RENEWAL FEES ($99.00 - $800.00 +), to include detailed company information, such as DBA (Doing Business As), LLC (Limited Liability Company) or Inc.(Incorporation). Much more administrative work, such as the generation of a CSR etc.

Shared Secured Socket Layer (Shared SSL) Data Encryption Certificate

TOP

This alternative is usually available through your hosting company. Contact them and ask about Shared SSL. This method provides the same security and encryption but displays the hosting company information.

Advantages of SHARED SSL Certificates: NO or MINIMAL SETUP and RENEWAL FEES ($0 - $20.00), and no detailed company information is required.

Disadvantages of SHARED SSL Certificates: Displays third party SSL Certificate detailing that company's specific information and not yours, offering potentially LESS credibility in reference to your company.

Even in the age of hyper-personalization and geo-location in search, the number of inbound links pointing to your site is still the most important aspect of developing and securing top search engine positions. That's right, it's not about internal linking structure, keyword density or the presence or absence of title tags - it's about getting websites to link to yours. So how do you do that in 2009?

Link building hasn't really changed much over the years and it probably won't in 2009 either. Link building involves getting other Web sites to link to your site. The creativity we apply to link building however is what separate the high-rankers from the non-rankers. Think of link-building as a word of mouth recommendation; the more dramatic, compelling and interesting the recommendation, the more believable and attractive the proposition of visiting becomes for the user.

In the eyes of search engines, it's both the quality and quantity of recommendations that matter. It's not about making sure your site is worth a link (it is expected that our sites satisfies even the most critical user), it's about going out and getting them. That concept understood, let's look at few basic link building tactics you can (and perhaps should) employ in 2009. We'll push the envelope in an article next week about "Genuine Advanced Link Building" - look for that article early next week.

Attention Website Magazine readers - share your link building tactics and resolutions with other readers by commenting below!

Write and Distribute Press Releases Frequently: You very well might have the next great idea or that next amazing product that everyone needs to have, but if no one knows about it then you're pretty much spinning your wheels. One way to spread the word is through the use of press releases. Website Magazine has written extensively on how to use press releases to secure publicity and it has remained one of the best, yet most basic, ways to get links (and to do it quickly). Follow the guidance on press releases we've outlined previously, build a working list of established media outlets and bloggers and pursue their attention (politely) through every means possible (including on social networks). In 2009, resolve to send out press releases to your list directly via email or using services such as PRWeb, BusinessWire or PRleap.com.

Become a Guest Blogger: One of the easiest ways to get attention on the Web (regardless of the industry you are in) is to work for free. Now I know that this idea might go against every fiber of your business-savvy being, but the value of doing something (which in itself is extremely valuable) for someone else works and it works well. Guest bloggers have a captive audience and an unmatched opportunity to build a viable relationship with an audience that is not their own. Resolve in this new year to be a guest blogger a few times, if only to test the waters. Identify blogs or email newsletters which you think your message would be valuable to and offer to share your expertise (for free of course) in exchange for a link or even some advertising. Take the idea of guest blogging further by recruiting your own guest bloggers - you'll be shocked at what kind of promotional effort people will put in on your behalf!

Share Your Insights Through Commenting: One of my favorite down-time activities is writing comments on blogs that I find using the StumbleUpon toolbar. While the traffic that StumbleUpon itself sends is of the lowest quality imaginable in terms of providing conversions, the service is excellent at helping users discover sites that they might find interesting or valuable. Search the service using individual keywords and couple that effort with comment tracking services such as CoComment for the purpose of measurement. The benefit of course is that you are identified as a participant in the conversation, which positively impacts your future link building prospects. If by chance the weblog you leave a comment on uses "follow" links instead of "no-follow" links, all the better for your link building efforts.

Do Something Nice:  If you've got an advertising budget, consider shifting a portion of those funds to secure natural (or at least semi-natural) links. Say for instance that you use an open-source software that requests donations. Why not make a donation and ask for a link from the developers site? Or say for example that you write a weblog on music like WM's Senior Editor Mike Phillips; why not consider writing a post on how to give back to music charities - someone will notice and grant you a link! Resolve to reap what you sow in 2009 and you'll be that much closer to Web success at the start of 2010.

Create Authority Documents and Share Socially: An authority document is one that people look to for guidance on a) how to do something, or b) how to do something better. Content does not exist in a vacuum however - it won't pull people on to your site on its own merit. You must share that information through an active network of Web friends and colleagues to make it stick in the Web's sphere of influence. That's why Website Magazine and others spend so much time discussing social news/bookmarking sites like Digg and Delicious, micro-blogging communities like Twitter and social networks like Facebook. These are opportunities where one can share their ideas and their content. Remember, authority does not happen overnight - it happens gradually with sudden increases (bursts) of influence. Resolve in 2009 to develop one well-thought out authority document each month of 2009 and, build out your social profile and share your content on as many social networks as possible, encouraging you friends to do the same.

Last week's article on basic link-building tactics and resolutions for 2009 discussed common tactics that each and every Web marketer should employ. Tactics such as press release distribution, guest authoring content, weblog commenting, leveraging donations and focusing on creating authority documents to share socially are all very practical, effective ways (not to mention well documented) to increase the number and quality of links pointing to your site. There are other, some would argue, more sophisticated tactics however. Some of the techniques included in this article might be familiar to you and some may not, but all will work to gradually influence your website's position on the SERPs. For that reason, let's call them "intermediary" as opposed to "advanced" techniques. Last week's post was so popular that we'll complete the link building trilogy next week with an an article on actual advanced tactics.

Please note that with every link building technique, there is an opportunity to abuse the system, the message or the audience. Website Magazine believes (and we believe you should too) that you reap what you sow. Without further a due, let's look at some intermediary link-building techniques, and some resolutions to make it happen in 2009,

- Design Website Themes & Templates For Your Industry: If you've ever designed a website on your own or paid a web designer to create one (or more) then you know how time consuming it is and in turn how valuable that work is to those who don't have those skills. This is precisely why there is value in designing website themes and templates for your clients, members of your industry and even readers of your weblog. For example, if you're a blogger using WordPress whose content focus is green living and the environment, why not develop a custom WordPress theme with some compelling eco-friendly images for that audience and provide it free to your readers? (Or how about a MySpace background?) If you're a marketing consultant, why not create a free landing page template? Find a target that might be interested in specific themes, customize it to fit their needs (and corresponding appropriate images), and you might be surprised how many will use it. Take that effort a step further and submit your design theme or template to sites like OSWD.org, OpenWebDesign.org and others.  Include some content in a sidebar or footer to show others where the blogger got that template, and you'll receive natural traffic and a few inbound links to boot. Resolve this year to produce at least one theme each month and distribute that content to the aforementioned services. You'll find that by the end of the year, you just might have enough content to create a standalone resource (and ultimately secure more inbound links).

- Develop Widgets/Plugins for Users: Widgets and plugins help your audience by providing them with a feature that adds functionality to their site or adds content for their own users. More importantly though for our purposes here, links to your site through the use of widgets and plugins can come in two ways: directly, by embedding your URL (in a "this widget is sponsored by" manner) and the method that should be preferred, having those using the widget or plugin link back to you directly in the form of a (isn't this a great widget/plug-in type) post. In fact, the sole reason that some Internet marketers are popular at all (or perceived that way) is that they focus on releasing free, value added services, widgets, plugins, software, etc. to their users. Over time, these individuals (more often they are actually groups) can secure thousands of links. Thinking strategically about you anchor text and where links come from matters a great deal, so should you choose to develop a widget, plugin, etc. think about the value it ultimately provides your core service.  There are several places that you can find developers to develop custom widgets, WordPress plugins or even modules for CMS systems like Drupal.  Services like RentACoder and oDesk (even Guru.com) list thousands of qualified personnel to make your idea (and link campaign) a reality. Resolve this year to create at least one widget, plugin or module for your user base. They will thank you, and the links will come.

- Purchase Existing Domains: One of the fastest ways to develop incoming links (and more importantly traffic) is to purchase domain names and redirect them to your existing site. Finding sites that are recently expired is a popular tactic and actually quite simple if you know where to look. Services like SnapNames and FreshDrops specialize in this service area and leveraging them to identify sites with potential (existing inbound links, age of domain, oftentimes existing traffic or the Google PageRank) is the sole responsibility of many SEOs. Another option is to use companies like domain auction/marketplace services such as SEDO and others that specialize in helping individuals purchase (and sell) domains and have quite a bit of background information available on each property to help make sure you're making a good decision. Clearly, owning thousands of domain names could be cost-prohibitive as would developing sites on those domains but the value proposition (especially in highly-competitive industries) is most certainly worth it. For example, would you spend seven thousand dollars if you could make seventy-thousand? Many people would (and just between you and I) and do. An alternative might be to purchase links, which is more of an advanced technique we'll discuss next week. This year, resolve to acquire some existing domains in your niche. Not only will you gain valuable links pointing to your site, you'll also gain a new audience - and that in the end is much more important to your success.

- Start an Affiliate Program:  Starting your own affiliate program is a sure-fire way (and my personal favorite) to build links. The more successful you are with your affiliate program, the greater it will influence your website's position on the search results pages. With an active audience, in short order you could find that hundreds if not thousands of sites might just link to your pages. Sure, you may need to recruit them, but in the process of doing so, you'll also find a few links along the way. For example, say you launch an affiliate program and decide to head over to an industry-specific forum to make an announcement about it. Not only will you find a few affiliates, but you'll also get a link from the forum. There are also many high-quality affiliate program directories to list your affiliate program (and your site in) such as Associate Programs, AffiliteScout and AffiliateSeeking. While many merchants shy away from affiliate programs, as they don't want to provide a share of the revenue, you'll often find that those most successful merchants do offer them and don't use an affiliate network to do it, instead opting for hosted (commercial or proprietary) solutions that can be operated on their own server, managed by internal resources and by all accounts, controlled and generally overseen by those concerned with the bottom line. There are many affiliate software program offerings available such as iDevAffiliate , but the best possible solution is to either use an e-commerce shopping cart with an affiliate module (such as OSCommerce) or one which provides affiliate support by default (such as Volusion).

Keep in mind, these tactics and techniques fall between basic and advanced (which we'll cover next week in greater detail). Last week's post on basic link-building tactics and resolutions received quite a few comments, so please share your thoughts on this week's list of intermediary link building techniques and your resolutions for making them happen.

The third installment of Website Magazine's immensely popular series on link building tactics and techniques (review the basic link building and intermediary link building tactics before proceeding) focuses on advanced methods to increase inbound link counts. But the more time you spend promoting your website however will reveal that there are not actually any advanced link building methods; no silver bullets to catapult you to top of search rankings. If you're disappointed, don't be; consider the realization a major step in your link building education. All is not lost. Don't lose your composure; what we need is to think creatively.

Advanced link building requires you fear nothing (e.g. rebukes from others) and are willing to sacrifice everything (the efficacy of the brand) if they (the advanced methods) don't work out (i.e. penalties) when leveraging available opportunities to build links.  That being said, we actually need to go beyond just being creative with link building efforts, we need to completely redefine the link building box we’re thinking outside of.

Remember that link building is a moving target (search engines change their algorithm frequently), that it is a long term process and there is no silver bullet; moving forward all the while with traditional link building will yield the best results. As in life, there are no shortcuts – so don’t expect them.

However, I’ve tapped my creative reserve and personal experience to share a few solid ideas you may have never thought of to build links. Some might consider these link building options gray hat (or even black hat, depending) but they do work and that is reason enough to consider them. In the end you’ll find that the best, most creative link building efforts have yet to be discovered.

eBay – The Ideal Link Building Platform: eBay is consistently ranked as one of the most highly trafficked sites on the Web. When looking for link partners, we should obviously pursue those with the most traffic as we know they get indexed quickly and have a lot of traffic. The result of profiling such high-profile sites is that most products (especially those in competitive niches) receive a lot of user attention. The way to use eBay as a link building platform is to actually have something to sell (of course, right?). One idea might be to develop an eBook about some aspect of your business (if you sell baby blankets, an ebook might be “Thirty Great Gift Ideas For New Moms”) and list it for sale on eBay. While you may not generate thousands of sales, you might generate a few, and with a content rich description (complete with links of course) you will generate exposure for your product and eventually find a few additional inbound links – especially if people really like it. Repeat the process fifty times and you could see how this might influence the SERPs, not to mention others who might purchase your ebook and reference it on their own site.

Become a New Media Socialite: While the links found within comments from Flickr are of the no-follow variety, many believe that even if the links are no-followed, they continue to provide some value to your SEO campaign and in the end, still carry with them the ability to drive traffic. When I suggest becoming a Flickr socialite, what I really mean is to leverage Flickr (and other social media sharing sites like YouTube or any related site that allows commenting) to both build an audience while sharing links to your site. You can do that by establishing a group on the network, search for photos or videos related to the keyword and website being optimized for and then let those who have posted photos or video know that you’ve added their photo to your group by commenting. Linking to your own profile will certainly raise awareness of your group, but take it a step further and develop a landing page on your site for your Flickr group and mask your URL in the invitation you post on other people profiles. It’s a roundabout way or generating links, but it works. Find those photos or videos which are semi-popular are you’ll receive a great deal of exposure for your comment and in turn your website.

Remember, these are just two ideas you can use to build links. While some may consider them advanced, others will not. I’ve intentionally left off the truly black hat techniques like referral spamming and the like, as I honestly believe we reap what we sow. The best course of action in your link building campaign as I have said before is to use the methods you know work, pursue those opportunities relentlessly and get creative with how others will link to you. In the end, advanced link building techniques are what you make them.

Adobe Updates ColdFusion; Releases Eclipse-based IDE
Public betas of ColdFusion 9, ColdFusion Builder IDE available for download

Adobe has announced the public betas of Adobe ColdFusion 9 and ColdFusion Builder software. ColdFusion 9, a development technology for building dynamic Web sites and Internet applications, is intended to increase developer productivity, integrate with complex enterprise environments and deliver rich and interactive experiences for users. ColdFusion Builder is a new Eclipse-based IDE used for rapidly developing ColdFusion applications.

For an in-depth discussion of ColdFusion 9 and ColdFusion Builder, see this Dr. Dobb's audio interview with Adobe's Adam Lehman.

"ColdFusion adoption has accelerated since we introduced support for Flex, AJAX and PDF with ColdFusion 8," said David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president of the Platform Business Unit at Adobe. "The increased integration with everything from Adobe AIR applications to enterprise-based Adobe LiveCycle ES software enables companies to meet critical business needs quickly, while ColdFusion Builder provides developers with an enhanced workflow between ColdFusion and the Flash Platform for RIA development."

ColdFusion 9 accelerates the development cycle by reducing complex business logic into a few lines of code. ColdFusion 9 applications access data from existing enterprise infrastructure including Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office files and portlet standards. Also, new ColdFusion 9 features include an Adobe AIR application for managing multiple ColdFusion servers from one location, helping to save performance time and reducing redundant tasks. ColdFusion 9 also offers local and remote database synchronization with Adobe AIR, improving user satisfaction by enabling them to use an application regardless of Internet connectivity. Additionally, deep integration with Hibernate's object relational mapping (ORM) provides developers with database independent applications.

ColdFusion Builder is a new development tool that provides a unified, customizable and extensible development environment to code applications, manage servers and deploy projects. It includes tools for debugging applications within the IDE, remote support and custom code generation, a customized development environment and support for applications built with ColdFusion 7 and 8. Using ColdFusion Builder, developers can become more productive due to the automation of redundant tasks and reuse of code. Also, because ColdFusion Builder and Adobe Flash Builder are Eclipse based, there is deep feature integration and enhanced workflow to generate client and server code.
